Aaron Havens earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University in 2017. As an undergraduate research assistant in the lab, he worked on online robust policy learning in the presence of unknown adversaries, which led to a NeurIPS 2018 paper with Zhanhong Jiang and Soumik Sarkar.
He went on to earn a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign under Prof. Bin Hu, working at the intersection of robust control theory and machine learning. He is now a postdoctoral researcher at Meta Fundamental AI Research (FAIR), working on scalable methods for generative modeling and reward-based fine-tuning, with applications to modeling physical processes in science and engineering.
Research interests: Generative modeling, reward-based fine-tuning, robust control, machine learning
Project: Online Robust Policy Learning in the Presence of Unknown Adversaries
